June 26, 2015 The United States Supreme Court rules in favor of the freedom to marry in Obergefell v. Hodges, striking down marriage bans in the remaining 13 states that continued to discriminate, and opening the freedom to marry to same-sex couples nationwide, at last- #Equality!

It has been a long journey, to say the very least, and what better way to celebrate this freedom to marry then with a wedding? Here’s where The Planning Company comes in and rides this historically monumental wave with you all the way to the altar. We’ve highlighted a few LGBTQ trends, from Felicia and Mary’s Miami wedding!

The ceremony was traditional, with a flare. Mary is in a traditional tux, showcasing a black trimmed jacket, pink bow tie and pink tuxedo shoes, where as Felicia is in a vintage off-white lace wedding gown with a jeweled capelet. Although these two are traditionally dressed to the nines, they’ve given it their own personal touch. This can also be said for their bridal party. The Brides had both guys and gals standing beside them during the ceremony, and used the unisex term Brides Mate to represent their wedding party.

Playing on the concept of traditional flower bouquets, the brides decided to take a more creative route and chose handcrafted floral bouquets made of fabric for their Brides Mates to carry, and a hand-made bejeweled brooch bouquet for the Bride (this was not tossed!)

The wedding cake was a three-tiered beautiful, glittery gold and pink- floral masterpiece, however it was not topped with two figures, but instead their topper was a sparkling text piece, reading their new title ‘Mrs. & Mrs.’ A title they thought would never be legally recognized, but as we’ve learned #lovewins!

In lieu of tossing the bouquet and garter, the Brides thought of another way to get their guests involved, they did a money dance! There are a variety of ways to do a money dance, but these newlyweds thought it would be fun to have their guests make it rain on them! This is a way for guests to have a great time, while wishing the couple good fortune together.
