Many hotels and resorts offer discounts during their slow times, allowing event and meeting professionals to get more for their money! If you’re traveling a far distance for your next meeting not only will airfare be cheaper during the off-season, but so will hotel rooms, group room rates and typically local shops and vendors will offer more specials during this time.
Another benefit to booking during the off-season is that you’ll have more date availability and less crowds! This means you’ll have more options for meeting rooms, and be able to enjoy ‘bleisure’ (business & leisure travel) without any distractions. Ensuring more focus while you’re working and enjoying more freedom while you’re playing!
Another consideration is the weather, that’s usually the determining factor making areas ‘seasonal’. So if you’re heading to a tropical area during their off-season, you may experience a lot of rainy days, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t beautiful sights and lots to do. And who knows, you could get that one perfect beach day in there! Or if you’re headed to a mountainous region, consider snow storms, which actually may be great a day or two later for enjoying some out door snow activities!
You may also experience a smaller hotel staff. During slower times there will most likely be less hands on deck. However, that shouldn’t effect your service, since the hotel won’t be as crowded, but it’s still good to think about ahead of time!
Although all the ‘seasonal’ activities may not be available, there are still great local things to do and see! Check out the local arts, entertainment and historical districts. You’re sure to find delicious restaurants, great museums and wonderful sights!
All-in-all meeting planning for the off-season is a win-win! You’ll be spending less, and still experiencing a place you’ve most likely never been before! Oh yeah, and you’ll fit some work in there somewhere too… Happy ‘bleisuring’!
