Location, Location, Location!
The location of your wedding will play a huge role in determining a lot of different factors, like travel and your budget – so make sure it’s the perfect place for you and your future spouse! Once you’ve narrowed down your location options (rustic, mountains, snow, beach, etc…?) you may consider taking a trip to the location to make sure it’s exactly where you’ve envisioned your big day happening. The location should reflect you as a couple, your personal style, your interests, etc. Maybe you love snowboarding, and want to hit the slops, or you love hiking and camping, or maybe you love lounging on the beach and snorkeling?! Make it the right choice for YOU, not your aunt or uncle who can’t stand sand between their toes.
Timing
As we mentioned above a destination wedding will involve more time and planning in advance. Consider things like travel time, coordinating vendors, seasonal struggles -like weather and high season, particularly in regard to booking hotel rooms and flights. Also, make sure you’re not geting married during hurricane season! You don’t want to be hit with skyrocketing prices for high season, so you may consider an off-season date, saving you and your guests some money, while enjoying a great getaway for all!
Combination
Destination weddings are gorgeous, exciting, exotic, and a chance for close family and friends to go on an amazing journey together. But, they are generally more expensive than a local wedding, that being said – another great way to get the wedding of your dreams and still afford a honeymoon, is to combine them! This will cut your travel costs, and your stress level considerably. You’re already in the dream destination of your choice, might as well stay a little longer and fully enjoy your beautiful surroundings!
Vendors
Choose your vendors, and of course your PLANNER, very carefully. Don’t worry we know the perfect planner for you – The Planning Company– we specialize in destinations, and can also assist in the vetting vendors process. You’ll be leaving a lot up to them, so make sure they are someone that you can fully trust. If you take a trip to visit the destination you may also want to make time to meet with different vendors. If that’s not doable, you could always video chat, or bring a trusted team from home! These people will be making your wedding happen, so we urge you to take your time and do your research.
Marriage Requirements
Speaking of research… The legal side of marrying outside in another country may be a little difficult, so ensure all your ducks in a row to make your marriage legal. There are different requirements, such as residency, where you’d have to be in that country for a certain amount of time. England requires you to be there for 7 days, whereas France is 40 days! This is one of the less glamorous parts of planning a destination wedding, but definitely one to pay attention to.
